Turner Classic Movie Channel launched on April 14, 1994 by Ted Turner who is a media mogul and philanthropist of this amazing time capsule that is TCM. Turner launched the channel at a ceremony in New York City in Times Square. This date was chosen because it’s the exact centennial anniversary of the first public movie showing in New York City which was April 14, 1894. In a trivial coincidence April 14th is also the date the Titanic hit the iceberg in 1912, though it didn’t sink until the 15th.
Although TCM is now the only network showing 24 hour commercial-free programming of classic films it was American Movie Classics (AMC) who actually was the first channel to do so. They launched in 1984, but in the early 90’s, AMC stopped using the commercial-free format and also played more recent films with dates ranging from 1970’s to present, leaving TCM the only channel to devote its programming entirely to classic films, uncut and commercial free.

CEO Over time, Betsy Bell became interested in Joshua Gardner, a young man who lived not far from her. With the blessing of their parents, they decided to marry. Everyone was happy about their engagement. Well, almost everyone. The entity, for reasons unknown to this day, repeatedly told Betsy not to marry Joshua Gardner.
Betsy and Joshua’s former schoolteacher, Richard Powell, had been noticeably interested in Betsy for some time and had expressed interest in marrying her when she became older. By some accounts, Powell, who was eleven years Betsy’s senior, was a student of the occult although it has not been proved. He was secretly married to a woman in nearby Nashville, Esther Scott, during the time he spent at Red River expressing his fondness for Betsy. According to old accounts, Powell politely expressed his disappointment with Betsy’s engagement and wished her a long and prosperous marriage with Joshua Gardner.

CEO The singer would look onto his audience and, with respect to the people who had wrote what he was about to perform, would start naming the songwriters. In the midst of this, he would remark (like one evening in 1988), “I don’t even know who the hell these guys are,” to the laughter of the concert going throng. It was no mistake that he didn’t like the upcoming song personally, but it was also no mistake that its release would return him to the number one spot on the popular music charts. The singer was Frank Sinatra, and the song was a little tune known as “Strangers in the Night.”

CEO Americans have affirmed their fascination with the unknown by making such movies as “The Sixth Sense,” “The Blair Witch Project,” and “An American Haunting” box office hits. Despite the frightening images and mass hysteria these films conjured, people are wanting more than just Hollywood thrills. Nowadays, it’s all about well-documented, historical hauntings, where choreography, special effects, and screenwriting give way to the chilling and oft disturbing realities of life.
