Actor John Hurt, the British actor who gained Oscar nominations for his roles in “Midnight Express” and “The Elephant Man,” has died at the age of 77, publicist Charles McDonald said Friday. Known for playing tormented characters, Hurt’s most memorable scene could arguably be when he died on screen in the 1979 space film “Alien” when a creature exploded from his chest in the spacecraft’s mess hall. “The Screening Room” ranked it among its Top 10 favorite movie deaths.
Perry Mason Heroine Barbara Hale Dead At 94

The Emmy winning actress starred opposite Raymond Burr on the long running legal drama. Barbara Hale, who played the diligent secretary Della Street opposite Raymond Burr on the legendary courtroom drama Perry Mason for nine seasons and 30 telefilms, has died. She was 94. “We’ve all been so lucky to have her for so long, she was gracious and kind and silly and always fun to be with. A wonderful actress and smart businesswoman, she was most of all a treasure as a friend and mother!” Said her son, William Katt of his late mother.

The actor died surrounded by family Thursday afternoon at a Los Angeles hospital from complications of leukemia that had been diagnosed a week earlier, said his son-in-law, Mike Condon.

Allman Brothers Band Drummer Butch Trucks Shoots Himself Dead

The horrific scene was witnessed by his artist wife of 25 years. Butch Trucks suffered a gunshot wound to the head and died Tuesday in his waterfront condo in West Palm Beach, Florida at the age of 69. A woman caller who is unidentified on the transcript but described as ‘hysterical’ dialed 911 at 6:02 p.m.
The dispatcher noted his wife Melinda witnessed Trucks pulling the trigger. Although he was breathing when police arrive, Trucks expired seconds later.

TV icon Mary Tyler Moore died on Wednesday after being hospitalized in Connecticut, her rep confirmed. “Today, beloved icon, Mary Tyler Moore, passed away at the age of 80 in the company of friends and her loving husband of over 33 years, Dr. S. A groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile,” her rep Mara Buxbaum said.

This past December 2nd, I was preparing myself for what I referred to as “Sinatra Weekend. It was a Friday, and that coming Sunday, I was to perform for the first time on stage as part of the Sinatra Birthday Bash, an annual tribute concert event held at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey. Before the show was to be held, a session was scheduled at Carroll’s Music Studio in Midtown Manhattan, a rehearsal where the cast of the production would review their performances with the entire orchestra. When one of my charts was called, I strode to the nearby microphone and took a survey of the entire contingent, a strings and brass ensemble of thirty pieces.
Looking at all of these professionals, I wondered if Sinatra had experienced a similar feeling when reviewing the musical splendor assembled before him. Indeed, December 2nd was a landmark date for Sinatra, as on that day fifty-five years before I stepped up to rehearse a tribute to his music, the singer himself was climbing on stage at Sydney Stadium in Australia, beginning the first of a two-concert date that would mark his second tour to the far flung locale.

Miguel Ferrer, an actor best known for his roles on television series like “Twin Peaks” and “NCIS: Los Angeles,” died after a battle with throat cancer on Thursday. Ferrer was reportedly surrounded by friends and familly at the time of his death. He was 61 years old.
Born into Hollywood royalty as the son of singer Rosemary Clooney and Academy Award winner José Ferrer, the actor was the first cousin to George Clooney.

It was the spring of 1973 and the warming evenings found young Greg Garrett playing outside in his backyard. Suddenly and without warning, the unsuspecting child became the first victim of an indescribable monster. A monster that would come to be known as the infamous Enfield Monster.
Every person who witnessed the beast describes it the same: three legs, five feet tall, taloned arms that curl in the front of the torso like a T-Rex, and gleaming red eyes that peer out of the dark with a weird radiance. News reports at the time suggested that the creature may be a kangaroo or gorilla, but with a description like that it seems hard to believe it could be so easily confused with a such common animal.

With this week commemorating what would have been the 73rd birthday of the dearly departed Frank Sinatra, JR., we take a moment to remember a unique recording project he took on some eleven years ago. Covered previously in a biographical installment of “The Sinatra File,” the 2006 album “That Face!” would serve, literally, as the swan song of the younger Sinatra’s recording career, a spread of five studio albums and several guest vocal appearances over a course of more than forty years.
Laid down when Sinatra, JR. was sixty-two and captured over the course of a few days at the renowned Capitol Studios in Hollywood, “That Face!” is an enjoyable listening experience. Produced by Sinatra Enterprises associate Charles Pignone with an orchestra led by JR.-confidante Terry Woodson, the album captures a man who is still on the way to reaching his vocal peak while sounding several years younger. When considering the news that the singer wasn’t feeling up to par during the recording sessions, it makes experiencing the performances all the more remarkable.

The star of movies such as “City of Joy” and “East Is East” suffered a heart attack early Friday at his Mumbai home, according to a close friend.”He was a torchbearer of Indian cinema,” actor Anupam Kher told CNN, describing Puri as “a wonderful friend and an amazing person.”
Puri was known for his versatility and appeal across global markets. He appeared not only in mainstream Bollywood movies and regional Indian cinema but also British and Hollywood productions.
Puri was one of the lead stars of 2014’s “The Hundred-Foot Journey” and also appeared in 2007’s “Charlie Wilson’s War” and 2012’s “The Reluctant Fundamentalist.”
