In the world of performing standards, it seems like there are only two ways to go when bringing a musical program to the public: utter grandeur or lush simplicity. Over the course of one week, I witnessed examples of both ends of the spectrum: utter grandeur in the form of the Red Bank (New Jersey) Jazz Orchestra performing Sinatra standards with a talented cast of singers and instrumentalists at the Count Basie Theatre’s annual Sinatra Birthday Bash, and lush simplicity across the river in New York City in the form of the intimate Metropolitan Room jazz club and the exciting vocals of singer Steven Chera.

Celebrating the debut of his newest album “The Classic Standards, Volume One,” the intimate New York City played host to Chera’s album release celebration, and the teeming venue, which seats less than one hundred and twenty, was filled well to capacity.

Gordie Tapp Cousin Clem on ‘Hee Haw’ Dies at 94

Canadian comic and entertainer Gordie Tapp, best known as the country bumpkin Cousin Clem on Hee Haw, has died. He was 94. Tapp died Sunday in Burlington, Ontario, after a long illness. He was born in 1922 in London, Ontario, and got his start in TV at the Canadian public broadcaster during the 1950s.

Just shy of 100 years old, Gabor died Sunday after suffering a heart attack. She was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Zsa Zsa endured a number of health problems in the last several years. Her right leg had to be partially amputated in 2011 after it got infected. Her husband, Frederic Prinz Von Anhalt, held birthday parties for Gabor the last few years, but she was so sick visitors were not allowed in her bedroom.

‘Bewitched’ Actor Bernard Fox Dead at 89

Bernard Fox, the mustachioed actor known to TV viewers as Dr. Bombay on “Bewitched” and Col. Crittendon on “Hogan’s Heroes,” past away Wednesday. He was 89. Harlan Boll, a spokesman for Fox’s family, said he died Wednesday of heart failure at a Los Angeles-area hospital.

Alan Thicke Star of 80’s Sitcom Growing Pains DEAD at 69 – Cause of Death Revealed

The actor and father of Robin Thicke, best known for his leading role in 1980s sitcom Growing Pains, died at the age of 69. The Los Angeles Times, quoting Robin Thicke’s publicist, said the actor died of a heart attack.

John Glenn: First American To Orbit The Earth Dead at 95

The first American to orbit the Earth has died. John Glenn was the last surviving member of the original Mercury astronauts. He would later have a long political career as a U.S. senator, but that didn’t stop his pioneering ways. Glenn made history a second time in 1998, when he flew aboard the shuttle Discovery to become the oldest person to fly in space. Glenn was 95; he had been hospitalized in an Ohio State University medical center in Columbus since last week.

Margaret Whitton ‘Major League’ Actress and Film Director DEAD at 67 – Cause of Death Revealed

Margaret Whitton, best known for her role as Rachel Phelps in the “Major League” films, died peacefully in her Palm Beach, Fla., home on Sunday after a short battle with cancer. She was 67.

Born in Philadelphia, Whitton’s first gigs included her off-Broadway debut in 1973 in “Baba Goya,” followed by her Broadway introduction in Nell Dunn’s “Steaming” in 1983. Her first major screen role came in 1986, portraying Molly in “9 1/2 Weeks,” alongside Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger. She then landed lead roles in films such as “The Secret of My Success” and “Ironweed,” before starring in the critically-acclaimed “Major League” and its sequel, “Major League II,” as Rachel Phelps, a former showgirl who inherits the Cleveland Indians following her husband’s death.

Steven Yeun is officially a married man. The Walking Dead star tied the knot with longtime girlfriend Joana Pak in a stunning wedding ceremony in LA on Saturday. Steven and the professional photographer wed at the historic Paramour Estate in front of their closest friends and family members, including Steven’s former costars Norman Reedus, Andrew Lincoln, Melissa McBride, Sarah Wayne Callies, Chandler Riggs, Emma Bell and Alanna Masterson.

Luckily for us, Joana’s sister Kayce shared a sweet photo from the event on Instagram, writing, “Getting to celebrate the love between these two, last night, along with all their friends and family was so beautiful and special!

Jensen Ackles shared on Instagram Saturday that he and wife Danneel Harris welcomed twins a day ago. The little boy and girl, named Zeppelin Bram and Arrow Rhodes join their 3-year-old big sister Justice Jay in completing the CW super fam.
The Supernatural actor captioned a photo of Dr. Seuss characters Thing 1 and Thing 2, “Danneel, JJ and I are excited to announce the birth of our twins Zeppelin Bram and Arrow Rhodes. They were born early yesterday morning. Everyone is doing great! #twinning”

Of Mice & Men singer Austin Carlile recently spent about four weeks in the hospital not long after his band’s triumphant summer tour with Slipknot. Carlile was admitted to the hospital during the band’s European tour in October, with the remaining dates being cancelled as a result. This would not be the only tour they were forced to cancel, Carlile is still unable to perform leading the band to drop off of A Day To Remember’s upcoming tour earlier this week.

You’ve got to admire a fellow like record producer Phil Ramone. A larger than life figure in the world of music, Ramone worked with some of the finest artists in the industry, spanning across multiple styles and genres of sound and entertainment. Having worked previously with Frank Sinatra in the mid to late 1960s, not to mention running the sound board at his New York studios during the recording of Sinatra’s album “L.A. Is My Lady” in 1984, Ramone was determined to work with the singer once again on some sort of recording project, and by the dawn of the early 1990s, Ramone’s desire would become a reality when he signed on as producer for one of the most controversial (at least, to critics and Sinatra fanatics) benchmarks in the Chairman’s career. It was called “Duets.”

Tom Cruise Bullies Leah Remini Into Pulling News Segment About Scientology

Tom Cruise reportedly pressured Leah Remini to get a segment on Scientology pulled from airing on CBS.The “Mission Impossible” star urged the ex-Scientologist to call CBS chief Leslie Moonves and convince him to pull a “60 Minute” piece about the church, using her weight as one of the network’s stars on the series “King of Queens.” “I got a call from the church and Tom (Cruise) to call Les Moonves and use my influence to squash the story,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.
The phone call was ultimately unsuccessful, as Moonves told her he would “absolutely not engage in this conversation.” Moonves also said multiple people from the church had called before her to try and get the segment pulled.

Leaders in the Church of Scientology weren’t happy that Remini, 46, didn’t get the story squashed, according to the actress.

Colombia Plane Crash: 75 Dead on Brazil Soccer Team’s Charter Flight

In the mountains of Colombia, rescuers combed wreckage for survivors. Outside a stadium in Brazil, fans who thought they’d be cheering for their favorite soccer team came to mourn. The Avro RJ85 was en route Monday night from Santa Cruz, Bolivia, to Medellin when it crashed near Rionegro, Colombia, with 72 passengers and nine crew members on board, civil aviation officials said.

At least 75 people were killed, officials said. Six survived.
