“How could they do a thing like that?”—Frank Sinatra
That was the question that a puzzled, retired Frank Sinatra posed to his guests when word came in 1996 that the famous Sands Hotel and Casino was about to be closed and demolished. Comedian Jerry Lewis was among those conversing with his host and longtime friend when the fate of the classic Las Vegas property subsequently entered the conversation. Sinatra was hurt by the news, personally affronted by the thought of the once glitzy playground becoming nonexistent. Looking back on it now, nearly twenty years after demolition crews reduced the iconic building to a pile of dust and debris, one could almost identify with Sinatra’s feelings.

Bob Dylan was born Robert Allen Zimmerman on May 24, 1941. He is a song writer, singer, and artist known for writing and performing some of the most influential antiwar and civil rights anthems of the 1960’s. These hits include, “Blowin in the wind”, “The Times They Are A Changin”, and “Subterranean Homesick Blues”.
Dylan has an incredible recording career spanning 50 years and has explored the traditions in American song from folk, blues, country, rock, rockabilly, gospel, and even jazz and the great American song book. Outside of his own successful career, he’s also penned hits like “The Mighty Quinn” for Manfred Mann,”All Along The Watchtower” covered by Jimi Hendrix, and recently “Make You Feel My Love”, by Adele.

Sad news to report. Talented actor Tommy Ford who is best known for his role as Tommy in the 90’s hit sitcom “Martin” has died at the age of 52 in Atlanta, a family spokesman has reported. No cause of death was announced, and the family released a statement Wednesday asking for privacy.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved son, father, brother, husband, and friend Tommy Mykhal Ford,” the statement said. “On behalf of the family, we would like to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers. Funeral arrangements will be forthcoming. Please respect the privacy of the Ford family during our time of grief.”

When we think of the romantic pop vocalist of the 1950s and 1960s, prominent figures like Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, and Dick Haymes are among the first names that spring to the mind. One who chooses to investigate a bit further beyond those legends leading the forefront will come upon the names of other singers who brought forth noteworthy performances to this classic style of music.
Although the amount of creative output is found to be a bit more limited among this secondary variance of vocalists (due to, among other aspects, record sales and musical chart success), singers the likes of Johnny Pace, Don Nelson, and Johnny Holiday brought delightful sounds to the ears of listeners with (mainly one off) albums of contemporary pop standards and jazz as they tried to break into a higher level of singing stardom.

The bayous of Louisiana aren’t for the faint of heart, only the most skilled and fine-tuned locals can survive what southern nature serves up. Couple that with a monster of indescribable proportions and you now have a community enveloped in terror.
The early weeks of 1912 brought bearable temperatures and the prospects of a wonderful new year, however the residents elation would be short lived. The first sign that there was something amiss were the disappearances. Now having said that over the years a number of people had wandered too far off the main road and had succumbed to the unstable bayou. While these first disappearances were tragic, they weren’t exactly unheard of.
