The World Without Old Blue Eyes: NewzBreaker Looks Back at Frank Sinatra

“I detest bad manners. If people are polite, I am. They shouldn’t try to get away with not being polite to me.”— Francis Albert Sinatra
Earlier this year, May 14th to be exact, marked the 13th anniversary of the passing of Music Icon Francis Albert Sinatra at the age of 82. As an avid fan who grew up to the sounds and stories of Sinatra from my late Father, Alvin Berkwitt, who collected his albums, worked rooms that he played at the Fountainbleau Hotel on Miami Beach, and watched all of his movies, I didn’t learn to really appreciate what Frank did for the world. It would hit me on my 22nd year on Planet Earth back in 1990, while stationed in Italy, and it hit me like a ton of bricks.
NewzBreaker Musical Memories: Real Life: Catch Me I’m Falling (1984)

In 1984, MTV was number one and the synthesizer sound owned the airwaves. A group out of Melbourne, Australia, named “Real Life” had a smash hit with “SEND ME AN ANGEL” and followed up with another hit “CATCH ME I’M FALLING” from the album “HEARTLAND.” The video by today’s standards is quirky, but for the 80’s era it fit in perfectly.
With David Sterry on Lead Vocals and Guitar, you had a fun tune, and in fact, the entire album is a winner. Very rarely do you have an album where a listener enjoys every single track and in my case, I did.
I have corresponded with David on a few occasions via email and he came across as a very nice gentleman who appreciated hearing from fans of Real Life.
NewzBreaker Musical Memories: ? & The Mysterians – 96 Tears (1966)

Earlier today in NewzBreaker Musical Memories we debuted with Keith’s 98.6 and now, we go to another number song that was a massive hit in 1966 by ? & The Mysterians named 96 TEARS. The group was a garage band out of Bay City, Michigan who was led by ? (Rudy Martinez) who wore tight pants and was never seen without his sunglasses whether it was day or night. In 1966, it hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S. and on the RPM 100 in Canada and is ranked #210 on the Rolling Stone list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Known for its signature organ licks and bare-bones lyrics, 96 TEARS has been widely-recognized as one of the first garage band hits and has even been given credit for starting the punk rock movement.
I chose a remake they did of their hit in 2008. It is not as strong as the original, but I wanted the RSR readers to get a good look at ? who even today, is ever the performer.
NewzBreaker Musical Memories: Keith – 98.6 (1967)

As a music fan, I always like to listen to those rare treasures from yesteryear. Since music is universal, I thought the NewzBreaker readers would enjoy a column that would find those gems that maybe have not been heard since they first came out or in several years. Since my musical taste goes back to the 1940’s, you will never know what you may get in this column, but we will bring you a video with a few tidbits about the artist or group.
Our first artist is Keith out of Philadelphia, PA singing his 1967 hit, 98.6 which was on an album called AIN’T GONNA LIE. Great vocal and background band which gave listeners a catchy tune. As my Uncle Stan always says, “A good song, is a good song, PERIOD!
I chose to use a video of Keith doing it live from 2008 because he was still in great voice and also appeared with the Tokens.

Hollywood LEGEND Doris Day WINS Lifetime Achievement Award from LA Film Critics

With true happiness I report that Hollywood Legend and one of the most gifted female singers of all-time; Doris Day is the proud recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from LA Film Critics. In her 87th year on Planet Earth, she has not been in the limelight much other than her constant support of dogs around the world through her charity.
I have always said she was a extremely underrated actress and to see just two amazing performances amongst many, watch her in the 1955 movie Love Me Or Leave Me opposite leading man James Cagney where she played singer Ruth Etting or in the 1954 movie, Young At Heart, opposite Frank Sinatra.
Legalized Casino Gambling: Coming to Your Back Yard

The war to bring casino gambling to Massachusetts has been decided it seems. The gamblers will get their way and the slots, tables, and sporting events will invade three locations yet to be determined. The neighboring Connecticut has been getting many Massachusetts residents invading due to Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods, two very popular casinos, and all of that money has been going with them, but that will soon change.
Bingo and the lottery has been a staple in the state and many have been a fan of cash bingo games, turning a buck with their lucky numbers. The love of the game of Bingo has stretched across generations and will not be a stranger to the casinos coming to the state. Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods and Las Vegas have all featured Bingo as one of their games included on the roster, and many of the Bingo halls may be out of business when the casinos roll in.
Nils Lofgren To Release “Old School” November 1st

First full studio album in five years features such music icons as Lou Gramm, Sam Moore and Paul Rodgers
It’s been five years since the release of Nils Lofgren’s last studio album featuring his own songs and, with his forthcoming release titled, Old School, he’s got something to say.
An effort that’s been in the works since the culmination of Springsteen’s Working on a Dream Tour in November of 2009, Lofgren’s Old School covers a variety of topics including desperation, self-doubt, true love, departed friends, holding on to your dreams and the world gone mad… along with a tribute to the late, great Ray Charles.
Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998) – MOVIE REVIEW

I have always considered HALLOWEEN one of the best horror movies of all time and the strongest series of horror flicks, better as a whole than the other big two: FRIDAY THE 13TH and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, and when Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) was returning, I initially was excited. I saw the trailer where she came face to face with Michael Myers and they played that familiar music that is synonymous with the series, you couldn’t help but to be optimistic.
The first problem with H20 is the fact that John Carpenter had nothing to do with it. He declined the offer to write it, which brought in Robert Zappia, who wrote on episode of that great show HOME IMPROVEMENT. I hope you can sense the sarcasm. I hated that show. I like Tim Allen….he’s rather funny in the movies, especially WILD HOGS, but that show was horrible and now they brought in a guy that wrote one episode to write such an important movie? Jeez.
Will SMITH – Jada Pinkett SMITH SPLITTING UP IS A PUBLICITY STUNT: HOLLYWOOD INSIDER TELLS ALL

Over the last month, the internet has been crawling with stories on the possible breakup of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. Well, I just got off the phone with a buddy of mine who works at the William Morris Agency who knows the team behind them.
“Steve” as I will call him let me know it was an elaborate PR stunt to help Jada out because as you all know, her popular show HAWTHRONE was just canceled. It keeps her name fresh in the public and studios eyes to either get her in a big movie or hit show right away, which in my years as a Talent Agent is brilliant. She is a very talented young lady.

Regis Philbin – THE REAL STORY ON WHY HE IS LEAVING LIVE! WITH REGIS AND KELLY

Over the Labor Day weekend I flew out to California to stay with some close friends from my old Hollywood Days. My dear/close friends Aldo Obarhagen and his wife Dolly, were top consultants for the I Love Lucy Show and years later, they worked on The Joey Bishop Show from 1967 – 1969. On Joey’s talk show, is where they met his sidekick Regis Philbin. I can remember when Aldo took me on the set when Joey had on Dean Martin and he had me in stitches calling me Pally. The likes of Martin’s talent will never be seen again. I have always felt he was much more talented and funnier than Jerry Lewis .
Michael Jackson’s FAMILY QUEST for MONEY and LIMELIGHT: FORMER ASSOCIATE Gives his THOUGHTS

Last month was the 9/11 tenth anniversary, and I want to extend my utmost heartfelt wishes to all the families of loved ones lost to continue with the healing process. It was a tragic day that we will never forget. As I sat glued to my TV watching many of the amazing stories about behind the scenes heroes, I saw a separate news story on Jermaine Jackson taking to the airwaves that during his brother Michael Jackson’s child molestation trial he, along with other family members, had devised a plan to get Michael out of the country if he had been found guilty.
First of all, who knows if this is true, but it seems that several of the Jackson family members have tried to turn a buck on their dead brothers name and it’s getting disgusting. It always seems that either Joe his father, or Jermaine his brother are the main ones. Janet Jackson has shied far away from this nonsense which I think is a smart move and I am not surprised by it.
