To be Babs and have the power to tell Apple what to do, Siri doesn’t even know my name, much less pronounce it wrong.

Barbra Streisand says she channeled her considerable clout into asking Apple CEO Tim Cook to change how Siri pronounces her name — and he happily obliged. The theater legend revealed her success story during an interview with NPR’s Scott Simon, who had just asked the iPhone personal assistant, “Siri, who’s the only female vocalist who’s had hit records for six straight decades?” “Barbra Streisand,” the oft-mistaken robot replied, pronouncing the second S as a Z.

Lost Boys Remake Surely A Lost Cause

August 19th, 2016 CEO

5-things-you-might-not-know-about-joel-schumacher-the-lost-boysBy Kristi O’Toole

Vampire TV shows are nothing new. But, if Rob Thomas has his way, he’s going to do something very new with The Lost Boys. The CW just revealed it has acquired a show based on the hit 1987 film that’ll explore what it means to be immortal.

According to Deadline, Thomas (who did Veronica Mars and iZombie) has a vision for the show that spans seven seasons. Each season would be set in a different decade with everything, except the Lost Boys characters, completely changed. They’re immortal vampires, after all. The network sees it as a replacement to the massive hit The Vampire Diaries, which will be ending soon.

Pearce’s Picks: Michael Dees

August 19th, 2016 CEO

-MichaelDeesIMG_3132-By Jerry Pearce

One evening in 2010, I was viewing the remake of the classic 1950s film Sabrina, a somewhat saccharine love story starring Harrison Ford, Greg Kinnear, and Julia Ormond in the titular title role. During an early intimate love scene in which Kinnear and a female share a dance outdoors to a beautiful love song, I became transfixed by the voice singing over the soundtrack. I hadn’t a clue as to who the singer was, but he sounded quite familiar, and possessed a wonderful vocal instrument. Scanning across the soundtrack section of the Internet Movie Database, I soon tracked down the information and found the song for download on iTunes. The song was entitled “How Can I Remember?” and the singer’s name was Michael Dees.

Frank Sinatra, JR. – An Appreciation

August 17th, 2016 CEO

sinatraBy Jerry Pearce

Hat in hand, I strolled into the Bergen County Performing Arts Center on the brisk Friday evening of November 13th, 2015, racked with anticipation. After picking up my ticket at the will call window, an older woman led me to my seat nearly at the foot of the stage: row three, seat one. As we walked down the left aisle of the cavernous auditorium, the stage already cast in the indigo of a warm blue lighting, she looked back briefly with a smile and said “you looked excited to be here.”

Indeed, I was excited. The Sinatra Centennial Celebration Concert had arrived in the Garden State, hosted by the Chairman of the Board’s equally talented son, Frank Sinatra, JR. It had been more than seven years since I last saw FSJ live in concert, and from accounts I received from fellow Sinatra fans who saw the program in the weeks prior, I was in for one hell of a show.

This week on “Pearce’s Picks,” we look over the sound of one of the great Italian pop crooners of our time, the great Al Martino, a career in music that spanned more than fifty years.

While to mainstream audiences, he is today remembered fondly for his brief but memorable portrayal as distant Corleone family member and troubled multifaceted entertainer Johnny Fontane in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1972 motion picture “The Godfather” (a character carried over from the Mario Puzo novel undoubtedly based on the notoriety of a brooding Frank Sinatra).
