Seven-time Emmy-winning TV Producer/Host Mike Baker, JR. opens in Damn Yankees at the Alden Theatre in McLean, Virginia on Friday, July 12. The musical runs through Sunday, July 28th. Baker is excited to play the role of “Applegate,” a part he interviewed Jerry Lewis about in 1998 for the BRAVO Cable Network. Baker also interviewed Tony-Winning actress, Bebe Neuwirth, who played “Lola.” These interviews can be seen on National Arts Television.com.
Baker’s enthusiasm for Damn Yankees comes from a boyhood love of sports. Baker made television history in the mid 1980’s and 1990’s by being the first Television Program Director to program 250 college basketball games in a single season before ESPN. Baker also programmed a 34-hour college basketball marathon during NCAA conference weekend. Tony Kornheiser, then with The Washington Post, came out to do a story on Baker. In a stroke of genius, Baker coaxed Kornheiser into going on the air at half-time of one the game broadcasts. Tony’s first response was, “I don’t have a face for television.” Baker responded by saying, “Tony you are the funniest sports columnist in America.

Sundance Institute today announced that the first-ever NEXT WEEKEND film festival, Aug. 8-11, 2013 at venues throughout Los Angeles, will kick off with an outdoor screening of Chris Smith’s iconic cult documentary American Movie and Mark Borchardt’s horror film Coven Aug. 8 at Cinespia at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Chris Smith will introduce the films. Tickets ($12) are on sale now at www.ticketfly.com/purchase/event/312351. Sundance Institute Members will have priority admittance via a members-only line for this event at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. This screening is co-presented with Acura.
NEXT WEEKEND – an extension of the popular NEXT <=> section at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah – is a summer film festival presenting four days of screenings, parties and artist programs that celebrate the renegade spirit of independent filmmaking.

June 25th, 2013 CEO The Dizzy Feet Foundation (DFF) and two of the nation’s most renowned performing arts centers, The Music Center in Los Angeles and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., will celebrate National Dance Day (NDD) on Saturday, July 27, 2013.
Launched in 2010 by “So You Think You Can Dance” (SYTYCD) co-creator and DFF co-president Nigel Lythgoe, NDD is an annual celebration that takes place on the last Saturday in July. This grassroots campaign encourages Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and combat obesity.
“My goal is to get people on their feet, as much for health reasons as for artistic reasons,” said Lythgoe. “National Dance Day is for everyone — individuals, families and communities — to come together, be physically active and celebrate the art of dance.”
