Adam, Where are You? – Spiritual Commentary

April 18th, 2016 CEO

Adam-and-EveBy Elder Hugh Tarrer

Genesis 3:9 “And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?”

Consider this scripture for a moment, and simply ponder the fact that an all-knowing, all-seeing and all-powerful God would ever have to ask this simple question. A question that reverberates and resonates through time and until this very day. Adam where are art thou? As an Emergency Medical Dispatcher Trainer and Supervisor I train our emergency dispatchers to get 3 facets of where the emergency is: the location, the position, and the alignment. Where an emergency is, is not simply to get an address, but you must know where it is utilizing Global Positioning Satellites, Longitude and Latitude and what is it near in relation to a known point or (resection) for you ‘old school soldiers,’ lastly be able to convert this from Longitude and Latitude to Grid-coordinates for Emergency first responders and or helicopters that will have to negotiate terrain easier. Once this is established and we verify a phone number the questioning will be of the Status of the patient.

Truth Or Legend? Mysterious Booms Plague South Carolina

April 17th, 2016 CEO

charleston-boom-356x220By Kristi O’Toole

I can definitely say the booms are truth, maybe a legendary truth, but truth nonetheless. The mysterious booms in South Carolina have many names, such as Skyquakes, Mistpouffers, and Seneca Guns but no one knows what causes them. And today the mystery is back in the spotlight after an unexplained boom rattled the Charleston area in early March.

“My whole house just shook…. anyone else? Weird and heard loud boom on Folly Beach,” wrote one witness on Facebook.

Anne Jackson Respected Actress & Widow of Acting Legend Eli Wallach DEAD at 90

April 17th, 2016 CEO

anne-jackson-09By “Bad” Brad Berkwitt

Anne Jackson, a Tony Award-nominated theater actress who often appeared onstage with her husband, the legendary late Eli Wallach, in comedies and classics, died early Tuesday of natural causes at her home in Manhattan. She was 90. Her death was confirmed by her son, Peter Wallach. Over the years, I corresponded with Eli who when my Dad died, sent me a wonderful personal note. For years, my dad would be stopped on the streets, especially in NYC because he looked so much like Eli which Wallach himself, couldn’t believe it.

NewzBreaker extends our condolences to the Jackson/Wallach family in their time of grief.

Sinatra’s ‘Trilogy’: An Appreciation

April 14th, 2016 CEO

SinatraBy Jerry Pearce

The year was 1979. With the exception of a handful of single recordings (as well as an aborted attempt with Nelson Riddle in 1977 to record an album based around ladies’ names), Frank Sinatra had not recorded a new full-length album in more than five years. Having made his comeback in 1973 with the album Ol’ Blue Eyes Is Back, followed a year later with Some Nice Things I’ve Missed, Sinatra often claimed in the ensuing years that he hadn’t found enough good material in order to warrant the recording of a new album. Despite this, one of the most asked questions amongst all of the countless amounts of fan mail he received was as to when he would be releasing a new record.

That spring, Sinatra was prepared to give his fan base an answer.

He was working on a new recording with his pianist and conductor Vincent Falcone when a man named Sonny Burke entered the studio. An important confidant to Sinatra, Burke served as musical director for Sinatra’s label Reprise Records and had produced most of Frank’s musical output since the early 1960s.

Guess the One Word That Best Describes the Presidential Primary Process?

April 14th, 2016 CEO

ElectionBy Dave Siderski

Given the recent talk of possible floor fights at both the Republican and Democratic conventions this year, I figured I’d take some time to learn more about the primary process. As a citizen, I should have a good understanding of how our next President will be elected. Shouldn’t I???? That said, after extensive reading and listening to the talking heads on cable news, I’m left with a pulse pounding headache and more confused than ever. Tylenol may not do for this one. I might need to break out the Vicodin along with a shot of Jack Daniels. You might too once you read what follows.

League of Legends Game Review

April 14th, 2016 CEO

league-of-legendsBy DeShawn Harry

What up Fam! It’s DeShawn bringing you a review of one of my most played and favorite games, League of Legends. I have been playing this game for almost 5 years and I’m still one of its biggest fans. In short it’s a MOBA or multiplayer online battle arena. What the hell does that mean? Well it’s a group of players usually arranged in 5v5 teams where each team picks a character to play and has to work together to destroy the other teams base/structures. Each character has a set of unique abilities that impact the game in various ways. Now that you kind of have a rough idea of what a MOBA is I will get into the review.

Fur Babies Corner: The Danger of Ticks

April 14th, 2016 CEO

bigstock-Dog-Ticks-3360070By Cyndi Crossland

Ticks started attaching to our K-9 friends early this year, probably due to our mild winter. Several of our human friends have found them attached to them already. It only takes one tick bite to infect your dog; some ticks can carry more than one disease.
In rescue we see a lot of flea and tick infestation. Some are so bad the dog is very ill. Ehrlichlosis is common in dogs we rescue. It is transmitted by the common brown dog tick. The symptoms of Ehrlichlosis may not be obvious, if left untreated it can become a chronic infection. The dogs we have encountered with this disease are usually very underweight and experiencing nose bleeds.

We would like for everyone to meet Penny. She is a 2 year old lab mix, she is spayed, up to date on her shots and microchipped. Penny lived on the streets of Tulsa for a while until her homeless owner could no longer care for her. The volunteers with “Feeding the pets of Tulsa’s homeless” all knew Penny and knew she was a good girl that deserved a good home. One of those volunteers had been in contact with the volunteers at Fur Babies Adoptions, together they were able to get Penny to a foster home in the Muskogee area. Penny needs a home of her own, her foster home has several other dogs Penny has done well with all of them except a dominant Chihuahua, so probably no small dogs in her home would be best.

Fur Babies Corner: Why Microchip My Pet?

April 11th, 2016 CEO

011By Delsie Lewis

A microchip is small about the size of a grain of rice. The chip is injected just under the skin of your pet, right below the collar between the shoulder blades. The injection is the same as getting a vaccination. The chip holds a very important number that is unique to your pet. When you have your pet microchipped you have to go to the manufacturer and register the chip in your name and address. You must keep this information updated if you want to be notified when your pet is found. No it will not track your pet for you. If your pet is lost for any reason, when found the pet is taken to a shelter or veterinarian and scanned with a wand.

We all have seen this on signs and advertisements. There are 1000’s of adorable mix breed and full blood animals in our shelters that need homes. They are not broken, they are not sick, they need homes. That is where rescues come in to play. A rescue that is recognized by the IRS as a 501c3 nonprofit can go to the shelters and “pull” or take dogs that need homes. A good rescue will take the dog to a veterinarian for rabies shots then to a foster home until the animal is spayed or neutered. The rescue provides wormer and other vaccinations. Once all vetting is done the dog is available for adoption.
