Frank Sinatra in Concert: Five Definitive Performances

From his first appearance with the Hoboken Four on Major Bowes’ Amateur Hour in 1935, to his final concert at the Palm Desert Golf Classic in 1995, Frank Sinatra was a man who loved to perform, a consummate artist most comfortable behind the microphone, communicating to his audience in the best way he knew how.
From his 1973 comeback to his final retirement in 1995, there were more than a thousand concert appearances alone. Adding in the other thirty-five odd years between his initial breakout and first retirement in 1971 drives that figure to almost mind-boggling numbers. Sixty years on stage makes for a massive plethora of songs and performances.
Mermaids: Aquatic Seductress or Murderous Diva of the Deep?

Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ is a sweet and heartwarming tale of a mermaid falling in love, battling evil to be with her prince, and living happily ever after as a human. We’ve all seen it and on some level, loved it. I know I still walk around singing, ‘Under the Sea,’ but them I’m a sucker for hopeless romanticism.
There are however other stories of mermaids out there. In Hans Christian Andersen’s tale, the young mermaid has her tongue cut out, gets her heart shattered by the prince when he chooses another woman, and eventually dissolves into sea foam instead of saving her own life by ritualistically stabbing said prince through the heart and bathing in his blood. For real. That is seriously not an exerpt from one of my twisted novels.

Axl Rose to Front AC/DC? All the Evidence Points To Yes!

Dead. I have died. Or at least I can die happy if this is the case.
While neither Axl nor AC/DC have confirmed working together, there’s a number of sources boldly declaring Rose the frontman. Earlier this year it was announced by AC/DC that they would be postponing their US tour as singer Brian Johnson was reportedly at ‘risk of going completely deaf’. (The first sign you’re rocking it right). Almost immediately the reports started flying that the band would continue with a new frontman, but no one was named.

Frank Sinatra: And The Compilations Play On!

Walking into the average department store in the present day, you may find that two distinct themes exist in the gradually shrinking music section of a majority of retailers. Under each alphabetized artist card, you’ll find a few of their past classic albums for sale, along with about a dozen copies of an album featuring a compilation of their greatest hits. For an artist as timeless as Frank Sinatra, he proves to be no exception to this theme. It was through a compilation disc like such that I began a musical journey from casual Sinatra listener to die-hard fandom.
When I was in my early teens, my grandfather retired from commercial truck driving. For a fellow who spent the better part of thirty years driving the highways of America to support his family, retirement meant boredom. To alleviate all the free time that had opened up in his schedule, he started taking under the table jobs delivering supplies across the tristate area with his own truck. I would join him on these trips, and together we’d hit the road with, strangely enough, the same compact disc always playing on repeat in his Chevy Silverado. I was thirteen years old.
