By “Bad” Brad Berkwitt

Charles Durning, a two-time Oscar nominee who was called the king of the character actors for his ability to play any role put in from him died yesterday at the age of 89, in his home in New York City.

I personally loved him in “THE STING” and any role he played either on the bigscreen, or little with Burt Reynolds, who called him, “his favorite actor.”

Classic, Little-Known Secrets Of Hollywood Icons Revealed – Breaking Book News

December 21st, 2012 CEO

After collecting literally hundreds of vintage tales of Hollywood legends over the years, Stephen Schochet not only wrote a book that everyone could enjoy on the glamorous, and not so glamorous, stories of Hollywood icons, but also created audiobooks. As explained in an interview with Reuters, this entrepreneur told two kinds of stories on his tour bus; origin stories – telling how things we take for granted came to be, and funny anecdotes. He not only read a lot of books to find his material, but also tried to meet people who were connected to the famous (like housekeepers) that he could garner some tidbits from! His book is a special blend of biography, history and legends that covers scandalous yarns on some of Hollywood’s greatest characters – from John Wayne to Marlon Brando. The eBook also covers little-known vignettes about such diverse genres from classic westerns like Unforgiven to vintage superhero movies like Superman and Batman.

Mickey Rooney Remembered: Top Talent Agent Looks Back

December 19th, 2012 CEO

By Danny Allen

Hello NewzBreaker readers, from sunny Miami Beach where it was 82 degrees earlier today, and many were out jet sking on the Biscayne Bay. As I sat reading my trade paper, I saw a sad story about my old friend Ninian Joseph Yule, JR. AKA Mickey Rooney, who is now, 92 years old. They said, he may have Alzheimer’s, which people were saying after a recent event in Palm Springs where he was disoriented when he was supposed to speak about his incredible Hollywood career. It broke my heart to read this about my old dear friend.

I remember when we first met on the set of the 1961 movie, “KING OF THE ROARING 20’s: THE STORY OF ARNOLD ROTHSTEIN” which also starred my dear friend the late, David Janssen who actually invited me to set so I could meet Mickey. At this point of Mickey’s career, he was already a Hollywood Legend, but his career had stalled for the most part.

Where Do Missing Things Go When They Just Disappear? – Breaking Book News

December 19th, 2012 CEO

Cynthia Drew’s short stories have appeared in numerous literary journals and magazines and her bestselling novels are available in print and Ebook formats. Her latest book, Where Do Missing Things Go? (Legacy Book Publishing), is a delightfully illustrated children’s story that not only encourages kids to read but, behind the whimsy, has a more meaningful theme with great messages.

We all lose things… but much to the frustration of parents, kids seem to do it more. In Where Do Missing Things Go? Cynthia has woven tender messages into a whimsical story, filled with cute animal characters, flying socks, and washing machines with faces that make kids laugh and remember its messages. The endearing, upbeat style is beautifully complemented by the colorful illustrations of Bill LaRocque, former cartoonist and illustrator for the Washington Post

While her book begins with finding lost things – socks, keys, glasses, anything missing, it ends with a message that reminds kids that while owning things and keeping track of them makes your life easier and better, nothing is more valuable than friends and family – the things that cannot be bought. It seems only natural that Cynthia’s book should be about missing things – since she is an expert at finding things in her work as a practicing Private Investigator.

Sy Smith Joins The Rickey Minor Band & The Tonight Show – Breaking Music News

December 19th, 2012 CEO

Nobody would have guessed that after a brief stint subbing for an under-the-weather vocalist on the most famous show in late night television, that Sy Smith would become a permanent fixture in the band. But that’s exactly what happened, and now Sy Smith is the newest member of the Rickey Minor Band and sings to millions of viewers 5 nights a week on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno!

Sy Smith has long since solidified her place in underground soul music. This Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter/producer helped cultivate the nu-soul scene in that city more than ten years ago, a scene which now easily boasts some of the most progressive artists of that genre to date, some of whom came directly from Sy’s own band line-ups.

But never one to rest on her laurels, Sy has continued to take her sound and her songs to new heights. With 3 albums, 2 EPs, 1 greatest hits collection, and a live DVD already under her belt, Sy released her fourth studio project “Fast And Curious” in March 2012. Her past projects usually include contributions from numerous producers, including James Poyser, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Dre King, Nicolay, and Ty Macklin. With “Fast And Curious”, the entire production is aptly handled by jazz musician, electronic remixer, and deejay Mark de Clive-Lowe (aka MdCL). Sy and MdCL together have created a brilliantly executed project with a soul that transcends its electronic foundation. Once again, Sy has created her own lane, cruising very comfortably in the land of Electronic Soul. Sy and fellow soul-crooner Rahsaan Patterson even take on a Billy Ocean classic with her latest single “Nights (Feel Like Gettin’ Down)”! The video for this dance-floor delight is a psychedelic trip into Syberspace, complete with clips from a Sy & Rahsaan show at Los Angeles’ famous El Rey Theater and cameos from some of Sy’s contemporaries in the soul music scene.

Zen Of Bennett: DVD Review

December 17th, 2012 CEO

By “Bad” Brad Berkwitt

For years, I have been a fan of Tony Bennett’s music which I grew up on when my late father, Alvin Berkwitt, played it in our house. Over the years, I have seen Tony twice in concert with the first, being in 1993 at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland and more recently, in 2010, at the Wolf Trap in Virginia in 2010. To say those were amazing nights is an understatement. So when I heard there was a documentary put out called: “THE ZEN OF BENNETT,” I couldn’t request a press copy fast enough. The DVD is put out by Bendetto Films, with the idea being conceived, created and produced by Danny Bennett, Tony’s manager and son. It was directed by Unjoo Moon. Before I go into my actual review, I have to say a few things about Danny Bennett.

I do not claim to know him personally, but have the utmost respect for the love he has for his father, but on top of that, taking his dad’s career to the highest of highs making good business moves that have allowed Tony in his 86th year on Planet Earth to still perform around the world to sold out audiences and amazing CD sales. Being a son of a Father that I love and respect as well, it was quite evident to see that “THE ZEN OF BENNETT” was a love letter, in a sense, to his dad.

If Laughter Is The Best Remedy Then Watching ‘Crowd Control’ Will Be Like Taking A Vacation – Breaking News

December 17th, 2012 CEO

For fifteen years Cash Levy has entertained sold-out comedy clubs throughout the country and appeared many times on Comedy Central, Fox, NBC, and CBS’s The Late Show with Craig Ferguson, to name a few. He has performed for our troops around the world to rave reviews, and can be heard daily on Sirius XM Radio. Regarded as one of the top improvisers in the industry, when everyone in Hollywood told Cash that improvisation was not something TV would ever broadcast – he set out to prove them wrong.

Cash’s success story earned him a one-hour comedy special called ‘Crowd Control’ that airs December 20th on AXS.tv at 11:00 pm Eastern. In deciding to shoot his own special, Cash not only took an enormous financial risk by using his own money, but a huge career risk in delivering his stand-up, ‘off the cuff’ routine to a sold-out theater with seven cameras rolling (no pressure there!). Yet against the odds, Cash Levy lived The American Dream and produced his own TV show!

Torn: Adult Movie DVD Review

December 15th, 2012 CEO

By “Bad” Brad Berkwitt

I have said it before, and I will say it again. Jacky ST. James is one of the finest writers in the Adult Movie business today! Proof of this is the recent movie I watched that she not only wrote, but co-directed with Eddie Powell called “TORN”.

It’s the story of a married man (Steven ST. Croix), who is in a long lasting marriage where he is no longer happy on all fronts, and has an extra marital affair with a young photographer played to the nines by Remy La Croix. LaCroix for me, was the standout star in the movie which also bolstered solid performances from Raylene, Samantha Ryan, and Steven ST. Croix.

Business Success With No Boundaries, Buildings, Or Fear

December 14th, 2012 CEO

Technology and changing business practices have fundamentally changed the way we work, build careers and search for talent. While other parts of the world have caught on to this movement, the U.S. seriously lags behind when it comes to understanding this revolution and what to do about it.

Fortunately, authors Tim Houlne and Terri Maxwell explain how to compete in this new world of work. It starts with a shift in thinking, but once you become clear on what is required, you can then apply the principles shared by the authors and take charge of your life by creating a better job, better career or better company. The New World of Work: From Cube to the Cloud (Inspire on Purpose Publishing) is a roadmap for the journey.

For those who embrace The New World of Work, comes the opportunity to succeed in a world with no boundaries, no buildings, and no fear.
