In 1999, I went to go see THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT and a lot of hype surrounded it. Many contended that it was real footage and that those involved were, in fact, dead. Although I knew it was all nonsense, I allowed myself to believe in the story and it became a really fun experience. Investigation Discovery Explores Whether the Sun has Set on the Exclusionary Practice of Sundown Towns in Modern – Day America

Don’t let the sun set on you in a sundown town. That’s what signs at the city limits of all-white communities warned when African-Americans were not allowed to live there or even visit after the sun set. This method of exclusion was often held by an official policy or restrictive covenant-. The practice of excluding blacks from American towns was so prevalent that, by 1936, it became the impetus for Harlem civic leader Victor Green to pen the Negro Motorist Green-Book, a guide designed to help African-American travelers avoid places where they could be harassed, threatened, or even killed. Today, it is illegal for sundown towns to exist on paper due to the 1968 Fair Housing Act, but some believe that communities remain sundown by reputation and reluctance to diversify. In the fourth installment of Investigation Discovery’s Black History Month anthology THE INJUSTICE FILES, filmmaker Keith Beauchamp takes a cross-country road trip to explore whether these exclusionary practices still exist today. Reggae singer William “Bunny Rugs” Clarke who was also the lead singer of the popular group Third World died yesterday at age 65 of Leukemia at his home in Florida.
Third World had several hits on the charts, but my personal favorite was “SENSE OF PURPOSE”. In 1985, I use to go a teenage nightclub, called Breaking Away, in a town called Brewster, in New York, almost every weekend.
The DJ would play “SENSE OF PURPOSE” and the entire club, including myself, would get up and dance to this great track. To this day, I still have it on wax in my record collection.
Our deepest condolences go out to the Clarke family in their time of grief…

Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman who was beyond talented was found dead earlier today of an apparent drug overdose, according to a law enforcement official who requested not be named because he was not certain the actor’s family had been informed of the death. As a 12 year old, I discovered video stores and began raiding the horror sections. I began with FRIDAY THE 13TH, watching every entry of the series at the time, and moved on to the HALLOWEEN series. These were great times. I walked around the horror section and found a movie called “SLEEPAWAY CAMP,” and it boasted of a memorable ending. At this point, I was slasher crazy and was very eager to see one with an ending to remember, so I paid my two dollars and brought it home.

Maximilian Schell, who won an Oscar for his amazing portrayal of defense lawyer in “Judgment at Nuremberg,” has died at 83.
CNN has reported that Schell died at a hospital in Innsbruck, Austria, with his wife, Iva, at his side.
“He was suffering from a long illness,” Baumbauer said. “My mother was Schell’s agent for over 50 years, and when she died four years ago, he remained with the agency. He was like a father to me and knew me my entire life.”

Anna Gordy Gaye, the sister of Motown founder Berry Gordy who also was married to the legendary singer Marvin Gaye, died at her Los Angles home today at the age of 92.
An official family statement said Gordy Gaye was surrounded by her son Marvin Gaye III and other loved ones. “She will be deeply missed,” it said. Earlier, a family publicist said Gaye passed away from natural causes.
