Viewers will get a glimpse into Australia’s world-class St. Vincent’s Hospital, which is located just a stone’s throw from Sydney’s bustling business district and entertainment hub. Each 30-minute episode follows an extraordinary team of doctors, nurses and specialists, as they work together to deal with the frenetic pace of one of Australia’s busiest emergency departments. SYDNEY ER premieres Friday, March 7, 2014 at 9PM (ET/PT) on Discovery Fit & Health.
In the premiere episode, a hip-hop artist comes into the ER after being stabbed in the chest following a performance. The St. Vincent’s staff is put to the ultimate test when faced with a split second decision that could save the young man’s life, but could also ultimately kill him. With the most diverse patient population of any emergency department in the country, this first-class medical team treats everyone from rock stars and celebrities to business moguls and the homeless – all in need of urgent care. Other cases featured this season include gunshot injuries, alcohol-fueled head traumas, drug overdoses, car crash casualties and everything in between.

In a perverse twist of fate actress Lucy McBath, who plays the grieving mother of a deceased young man in this award-winning movie, lost her only son when he was gunned down at a gas station in Jacksonville, FL, just seven months after the movie was made. “While the movie represents the rightful use of the Stand Your Ground Law, Lucy’s son represents when it’s wrongfully used,” says Jackie Carpenter, mother of the young man who was on trial for his life in the movie.

I don’t think there was a more suited nickname in the history of boxing than Gerry Cooney’s. He was nicknamed the “Gentleman” and he is, truly that. Gerry is a man of such admirable qualities, and you will see just what I mean in the following interview.
Cooney’s rise to the top of the heavyweight ranks in the late 1970’s came fast and secured him a shot at then Heavyweight Champion, Larry Holmes, on June 11, 1982. In a fight that was action packed throughout, Cooney would come out the loser for the first time in his career by TKO in the 13th round. Cooney would only fight sporadically for the next five years.
On June 15, 1987, he would again challenge for the Heavyweight Title against then Heavyweight Champion Michael Spinks. This fight would be less competitive than the Holmes fight and Cooney would be stopped in the fifth round.

Black, “peacefully passed away” at her Woodside, California, home from natural causes at 10:57 p.m. local time Monday, surrounded by her family and caregivers, her family said in a statement on Tuesday.
