BOOK REVIEW – Pat Cooper How Dare You Say How Dare Me!

November 30th, 2011 CEO

By “Bad” Brad Berkwitt
Cover Photo: Jeffrey Hornstein
Author Photo: Robert Weidenfeld

As a young man, I was exposed to many things by my late father, Alvin Berkwitt, who was 40 years my senior.   Comedy was certainly one of them. Comedy albums or TV shows with comedians was common place in our household and my first exposure to Pat Cooper. When Pat came on the screen or when we listened to him on our record player, Dad’s laughter turned to tears. He would always say, “Bradley that is talent. Either you have it, or you don’t.”

Corey HART Still Wearing his SUNGLASSES AT NIGHT – MTV Rocker Talks with NewzBreaker – Music News

November 28th, 2011 CEO

Exclusive Interview by “Bad” Brad Berkwitt

“MTV has lost its innocence.” – Corey Hart

In 1984, I was still living down in North Miami Beach, Florida, and as many that were my age back then (16 to be exact), loved Friday Night Videos. I was part of that group. The show aired on NBC from July 29, 1983 through December 30, 2000.

I can remember sometime in 1984, this tune coming on that had the line “I wear my sunglasses at night.” It had a heavy beat, catchy lyrics, and in the video, a 22 year old Corey Hart singing the song, which he wrote. I was hooked along with many of my cronies… It was not that long after the video aired, that the song made it up the US charts to #7 with a bullet.

Singer & Actress Lainie Kazan Talks about her Amazing Career with NewzBreaker

November 27th, 2011 CEO

Exclusive Interview by “Bad” Brad Berkwitt

“I’ve worked with Lainie, known her as talented and respected actress in both dramatic and comedic roles; an actress clearly with enviable staying power.”– Shelley Berman (Grammy Award winning Comedian and co-starred with Lainie in “You Don’t Mess With The Zohan”).

“Lainie Kazan is a treasure for those of us hailing from New York City. Admittedly I’m biased.

Lainie has an immense set of pipes, a well articulated voice, and the ability to not just sing a song, but BECOME the protagonist in her songs and express all those subtle feelings.

As an actress, Lainie is a classic example of how being true to one’s self, one’s roots, ones culture; one can resonate with the larger world community. For a Jewish girl from New York; to command roles as an Italian, a Greek, as well as a Spaniard is a more than significant accomplishment. And, she didn’t just play these roles, she owned them convincingly. I LIKE LAINIE.” — Award winning Singer and Songwriter Gregory Abbott

Lainie Kazan not only defines the word “talent,” but embodies it. She can sing, act, and on top of an amazing career that has spanned almost 50 years, she is a true Humanitarian which in the world today, we need more of them.

Kazan graduated from Hofstra University with a B.A. in Speech and Drama with a minor in Education. She is also an Adjunct Professor at Hofstra University teaching at the School of Communications, where she is on the advisory board.

Ron Lyle: The Death of a Great Heavyweight – Another Muhammad Ali Foe Passes Away

November 27th, 2011 CEO

By Geno McGahee

The boxing world was dealt a blow today with the passing of the hard-punching heavyweight contender, Ron Lyle at the age of 70. Lyle had a record of 43-7-1, 31 KO’s, and was known for his amazing punch and courage in the ring.

Lyle may be remembered most for his up and down brawl with George Foreman in 1976, where both men hit the floor on numerous occasions. Lyle would come up short, but he would make quite the impression with boxing fans. He was a fighter, plain and simple.

From Jersey – to – the World Famous Jilly’s & Stages Around the World: Singer Frankie Randall Talks about his Career

November 26th, 2011 CEO

Exclusive Interview by “Bad” Brad Berkwitt

Photos: Personal collection of Frankie Randall

“Frankie Randall is, without a doubt, one of the brightest men in the business!”—Julius La Rosa

“Frankie Randall is a consummate performer. He is an exquisite jazz pianist and a wonderful singer. I had the great pleasure to work with him on the Dean Martin Show and I’m very proud to call him a friend.”—Lainie Kazan

Singer Peter Gabriel had a hit song in the 1980’s titled BIKO which was about Steven Biko, a man who fought against apartheid in South Africa – ultimately costing him his life. In BIKO, there is a line Gabriel wrote that goes – “you can blow out a candle, but you can’t blow out a fire.” This is such a great metaphor and one that defines singer Frankie Randall. He worked for years because he had that “FIRE” in his soul that would take him from Passaic, New Jersey to stages around the world meeting an Icon he respected who was in the same business and was the legend himself, Frank Sinatra.

NewzBreaker Book Review: Uncle Al Capone – THE UNTOLD STORY

November 26th, 2011 CEO

By “Bad” Brad Berkwitt

When one hears the name Al Capone, the old days of Chicago come to mind when he ruled the city with an iron first as Public Enemy #1. Years since his death in 1947, movies have been made portraying his life on the big screen as well as the small screen where he has been a character on shows such as The Untouchables and most recently, HBO’s Boardwalk Empire.

However, if you are fascinated by people as I am, you wonder what about the man named Al Capone behind the myth? Well, when NewzBreaker’s Managing Editor Geno McGahee was contacted about doing a book review for Uncle Al Capone written by his grandniece, Deirdre Marie Capone he knew that was a genre that I have always been interested in and had it sent to me read/review.

The late Jimi Hendrix has been named the greatest guitarist ever in a poll conducted by Rolling Stone Magazine. Hendrix, was in good company with Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, The Rolling Stones Keith Richards and Jeff Beck to name just a few.

Sadly, Jimi’s flame burned out far too soon when he was found dead on September 18, 1970 at the age of 27. His death was caused by him choking on his own vomit.

If they brought Jimi Hendrix's life story to the big screen who do you think should play him?

Tony Bennett Remembered

November 22nd, 2011 CEO

Concert Review by “Bad” Brad Berkwitt

“For my money, Tony Bennett is the best singer in the business. He excites me when I watch him. He moves me. He’s the singer who gets across what the composer has in mind, and probably a little more.” – Frank Sinatra

Last year for the second time in my 42 years on Planet Earth, I saw the Legend Tony Bennett perform live. The first time was some 17 years ago at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia Maryland. Well, at the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts in front of a sold out audience, Valarie and I sat amongst the old, young, black and white that were united by one thing which we all shared and that was our love for Tony Bennett’s music. Opening up for Tony was his daughter Antonia, a songster in her own right, who sang classics from the “GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK” and warmed up the crowd with a great interpretation of a lyric and voice to go with it. After a few songs, she exited the stage and the announcer said, “Ladies and Gentlemen, Tony Bennett.”

This past Friday, Bonnie Pointer formerly of The Pointer Sisters and later, a solo career in the music industry was in a vehicle that was pulled over by police because of faulty equipment.

E! News reported that Los Angeles County Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore told them that the 61-year-old Pointer was a passenger in a car with two other people when the vehicle was stopped shortly after midnight for a bad brake light.
