World Football Team of the Year

January 8th, 2018 CEO

In each calendar year, football gives us some crazy skills, dope players and some of the world performances. These sometimes may come from small teams that defy the odds to do the unimaginable like what we saw as Leicester City won the English Premier League with 5000-1 odds. However, sometimes the big boys do the work providing us with some great viewing spectacle as we saw this year with Spanish giants Real Madrid winning for the first time in the club’s history, five trophies in one calendar year.

La Liga

Real Madrid broke their La Liga duck this year as they won the league in an impressive fashion. Two of their midfield stars were absolutely brilliant during the course of the campaign that is Luka Modric and Toni Kroos whose stats you can find on NetBet Live. The two stabilised the midfield, controlled the flow of the game and bosses virtually every midfield opposition they came against. The two also chipped in with some goals and assists along the way. In defence, Sergio Ramos was his usual best while in attack Ronaldo showed he still has it and the emergence of Isco and Marco Asensio provided good competition for places and added a different dimension to Real’s attack. The title became Real Madrid’s 33rd La Liga title.

Champions League

Real Madrid made history as they won for the first time in the history of the competition, two consecutive Champions League titles. Real Madrid defeated Juventus in the final with Ronaldo at his absolute best. In the knockout rounds, Ronaldo scored hat tricks against Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid to set a personal record of the most number of goals scored in UEFA’s knock out rounds both in the Champions League and in the Europa League.

European Super Cup

Winning the Champions League was the ticket for Real Madrid to compete in the European Super Cup against Europa League winners, Manchester United. Real Madrid won the match and one man was particularly impressive that is Isco. He put in a stellar performance that forced his club to give him a new bumper contract.

Spanish Super Cup

Real Madrid met fellow rivals Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup and the subsequent post-match comments by Barcelona defender Gerard Pique that he felt for the first time in his career Real Madrid was better than Barcelona clearly paints the picture of how the match went about. Real Madrid dominated the two legs winning by an aggregate of five goals to one.

Club World Cup

Real Madrid capped off the year with the Club World Cup trophy beating Brazilian side, Gremio thanks to a superb Cristiano Ronaldo goal.
