An 11 year old, Jason Steed, is the main character in the Mark Cooper book: REVENGE. I thought it was rather interesting to see an 11 year old in the role of a secret agent, but this author knows his target audience. My 7 year old was a bit too young to relate to the child force in this book, but I’m sure that most in the range of 10 to 13 will be quite taken with this.
This is a James Bond-like story and the picture was painted very well. Jason works for the Scotland Yard and is going head to head with some very bad guys, the Triads. They are planning a global overthrow, but Steed plans to stop it, but there are plenty of twists, turns, and betrayals for him to deal with.
I really enjoyed the action aspect of this book. It was a quick read (232 pages) and it is jam-packed with action sequences, which made this that much more enjoyable. The way it was written and the story is what pushes this book. I am not a fan of James Bond/Spy stories and I’m not very big on 11 year olds that save the day, but Mark Cooper finds the way to put it across where the reader can enjoy it even if it is not their thing.
Although I enjoyed this book for the most part, I think that the target audience would be immensely impressed. Those pre to early teen boys that have plenty of aggression and want to emulate the fighting that they see in action films will have a hero to vicariously live through with Jason Steed.
REVENGE: JASON STEED is a fun book with plenty of twists and turns. I recommend it!
